NYC Transit Rank-and-File Reject Contract

From LabourStart and Bloomberg.com comes news that TWU local 100 members have rejected the tentative deal with the NY City transit authority. The vote was 11,234 to 11,227. That’s right, it lost by 7 votes.

Back to the negotiating table for the union leadership and the MTA. But one thing is for sure, this is a sign of healthy democracy in the local.

LabourStart also links to a Reuters report that U.S. union membership is up for the first time in 6 years.

    Isn’t it great?

    :)

You tell me. It is unusual. It probably won’t screw anyone over. One hopes that the head of the MTA, having admited that he blew it by asking for the pension change, will not try anything like that again.
